Tip for the Day:
STRETCH -
Stretching is a powerful part of any exercise program. Most aerobic and strength training programs inherently cause your muscles to contract and flex. Stretching after you exercise promotes equal balance. Stretching also increases flexibility, improves range of motion of your joints and boosts circulation. Stretching can even promote better posture and relieve stress.
As a general rule, stretch whenever you exercise. If you don't exercise regularly, you might want to stretch at least three times a week to maintain flexibility. When you're stretching, keep it gentle. Breathe freely as you hold each stretch. Try not to hold your breath. Don't bounce or hold a painful stretch. Expect to feel tension while you're stretching. If you feel pain, you've gone too far.

It's a New Year and time to make good of the Resolutions you created in December.
Los Angeles School of Gymnastics encourage and promote a Healthy Lifestyle with Youths and Adults.

"Gymnastics is the bases of all sports" teaching flexibility, discipline, strength and much more allowing more time playing and less injuries. With a Healthy Body, follows a Healthy Mind. Focus, determination and perserverance creates a "Gom" means "to become familiar with ones self" and has the strong implication of training the mind.
1. EXERCISE YOUR HEART
1. Performing cardiovascular exercise strengthens the cardiovascular system and over time lowers your resting heart rate. Forms of cardiovascular workouts include running, swimming, biking or using machines such as an elliptical or an indoor rower. The American College of Sports Medicine suggests performing a moderate intensity cardio workout 30 minutes a day, five days a week, or a vigorous cardio session for 20 minutes daily, three days a week.
2. BUILD STRENGTH
Resistance training is another healthy lifestyle method that will potentially increase metabolism
. Since muscle tissue requires calories to survive, the adaptation of new muscle creates a demand for greater calorie burn. The ACSM also recommends sticking to a twice-weekly resistance program consisting of eight to 10 exercises, keeping repetitions around eight to 12.
3. PLAY SPORTS
A way to get moving again can come from enjoying your favorite sport. Games or leagues in your area provide a way to receive adequate exercise. Gymnastics is an excellent foundation for all sports.
4. INVOLVE THE FAMILY
Involving the whole family is another method to create group support and quality time with loved ones. Create games that include the entire family for a workout filled with fun.
5. CONTROL YOUR WEIGHT
Reducing calories in your diet creates a way to increase overall health and lower body weight. Understand your daily caloric needs by using the basal metabolic rate
formula. Basal metabolic rate refers to the amount of calories burned at resting levels. An average BMR for women is typically around 2,000 to 2,100 calories a day, and for men, 2,700 to 2,900 calories daily.
6. AVOID PROCESSED FOODS
Avoiding processed foods
can increase overall health and prevent unwanted weight gain and illness. Processed foods have been blamed for behavioral problems such as hyperactivity, weight gain and certain cancers, reports the Puristat Digestive Wellness Center.
7. CONTROL CRAVINGS
Eliminating nighttime eating will also assist in weight reduction and health improvement. Keep yourself occupied and be aware of times when cravings are highest.
8. SLEEP
Getting adequate sleep is crucial for weight reduction and health. According to the University of Chicago Medical Center, "Sleep deprivation triggers the release of unwanted hormones such as cortisol, which alters glucose metabolism resulting in fat storage." Sleeping at least eight hours a night will help promote regular glucose metabolism and limit weight gain.
9. REDUCE STRESS
Controlling stress is another method of creating a healthy lifestyle. Like sleep deprivation, high levels of stress activate hormone release, including cortisol, which modifies glucose metabolism. Unwanted food cravings typically occur during high levels of stress. Control your daily stress by first identifying certain causes and create steps to reduce stress levels. One method could be performing deep-breathing techniques for five to 10 minutes when stress levels are heightened. Yoga can be an outlet for levels of stress and relaxation from your stress-filled life.
10. TAKE GRADUAL STEPS
Make gradual and progressive strides toward improving your health. An overall lifestyle change takes time to create. Set small, time-oriented goals and track your success to achieve the big picture that is total wellness.

Dominique Dawes sprints across the blacktop at Maury Elementary School in Washington D.C. last Wednesday in a relay race with students. Not exactly the kind of workout that keeps the 33-year-old former gymnast in shape. She was there as co-chair of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, a group that's trying to implement Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative to prevent childhood obesity. While the grade schoolers sprinted past her in sensible sneakers, she told me what she does to maintain her svelte physique now that she's no longer doing double backflips.
"I went through a tough stage at the end of my gymnastics career," she admits, "where I put on that freshman 15." Now she does yoga and pilates several times a week because she says they're "good for my mind as well as my body." She also enjoys taking a "boot camp" class at her gym that uses military-style training techniques—think pushups and a lot of yelling. And she's got a secret for her neighbors who hire lawn service companies: To burn calories, she mows hers herself. Her next step is to incorporate planting and weeding into her workout routine, but she first has to learn some gardening skills. "I'm going to get some tips from Michelle Obama the next time I visit the White House garden," she says.
Since you may not be able to stomach boot camp or get gardening advice from the first lady, what are some practical ways to maintain your fitness as you age? If you don't have time for formal workouts, squeeze in activity whenever possible—like walking to the post office during your lunch break instead of driving there after work, Dawes says. Sometimes exercise can be a time-saver, like parking farther away at the mall and walking for five minutes instead of taking 10 minutes to hunt for a close spot.
If you have young children, use them as a built-in incentive to get active. "Be creative, make it fun, and get your kid involved," says Dawes. She recently visited a town that had a "walking school bus," where a rotating group of parents walk all the neighborhood kids to school. If you're able to set aside an hour for playtime, choose freeze tag or frisbee over a board game. Parents can even formalize these activity efforts by signing up through their child's school for the chance to earn a "President's Active Lifestyle Award." Adults earn this by logging 30 minutes of exercise—kids need an hour after school—five days a week for six weeks.

Parkour is an urban athletic art that challenges the practitioner, or traceur, to navigate her environment rapidly and efficiently by jumping, vaulting, dropping and running. Parkour training involves developing physical strength and familiarity with the moves of parkour, which center around overcoming obstacles, such as walls, stairs, railings and cars, in order to move adeptly through the space. Parkour training can be done solo, but it's advised to find a practiced traceur who can guide you through the moves of parkour safely and with respect to your physical abilities.
Basic Training
Parkour is a physically demanding sport that requires either a background in strength and endurance training, or the intent to develop the necessary physical condition through slowly conditioning your body using parkour. Basic parkour training involves developing strength through resistance training or weightlifting, as well as becoming familiar with the basic parkour moves. The building blocks of parkour are the drop, roll, vault and jump. Learning to drop and roll safely take precedence over all other moves, as these are required to practice parkour consciously.

Advanced Training
Once you've developed your strength and familiarity with the drop, roll, vault and jump, you can move onto more advanced parkour training. Learn vaults, such as the kong vault, reverse vault and monkey vault, in order to build on your existing vault. Similarly, the cat leap and squirrel leap build on your jump in order to address more complex obstacles. Advanced parkour puts emphasis on precision, which is the art of landing your moves in exactly the place you intended them to. As always, never exceed your physical abilities in an attempt to land complex moves. This creates excellent endurance and toning.
Trainning
Parkour can be trained alone or with a trainer. Many people come to parkour without a community, and teach themselves parkour through practice guidance. Practicing with other people and more advanced traceurs is advisable for safety and is also valuable to broaden your own parkour abilities.
