Get Fit with Parkour at LASG

Posted on Wed, Jan 02, 2013 @ 14:01 PM

Parkour is an urban athletic art that challenges the practitioner, or traceur, to navigate her environment rapidly and efficiently by jumping, vaulting, dropping and running. Parkour training involves developing physical strength and familiarity with the moves of parkour, which center around overcoming obstacles, such as walls, stairs, railings and cars, in order to move adeptly through the space. Parkour training can be done solo, but it's advised to find a practiced traceur who can guide you through the moves of parkour safely and with respect to your physical abilities.

Basic Training

Parkour is a physically demanding sport that requires either a background in strength and endurance training, or the intent to develop the necessary physical condition through slowly conditioning your body using parkour. Basic parkour training involves developing strength through resistance training or weightlifting, as well as becoming familiar with the basic parkour moves. The building blocks of parkour are the drop, roll, vault and jump. Learning to drop and roll safely take precedence over all other moves, as these are required to practice parkour consciously.

Indoor Parkour

Advanced Training

Once you've developed your strength and familiarity with the drop, roll, vault and jump, you can move onto more advanced parkour training. Learn vaults, such as the kong vault, reverse vault and monkey vault, in order to build on your existing vault. Similarly, the cat leap and squirrel leap build on your jump in order to address more complex obstacles. Advanced parkour puts emphasis on precision, which is the art of landing your moves in exactly the place you intended them to. As always, never exceed your physical abilities in an attempt to land complex moves. This creates excellent endurance and toning.

Trainning

Parkour can be trained alone or with a trainer. Many people come to parkour without a community, and teach themselves parkour through practice guidance. Practicing with other people and more advanced traceurs is advisable for safety and is also valuable to broaden your own parkour abilities.

10 Reasons to Choose Indoor Gymnastics during Winter

Posted on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 @ 16:11 PM
  1. It’s hot! Nobody wants to practice and train in outside in the cold winter weather. Come train in our award-winning gymnasium and start sweating.
  2. Increase your flexibility. The cold will contract your muscles and decrease your flexibility. It’s easier to increase your flexibility within the confines of the warm gymnasium.
  3. Increase your strength. There is no better time to increase your strength and stamina during the winter months. Your friends and families will be amazed of how strong you have gotten when springtime comes around.
  4. Increase your coordination. It’s easy to stay in bed and not get up to exercise because it is so cold outside. You can hone your skills and coordination wearing shorts and a T-shirt without risking getting a cold this winter.
  5. Make new friends and better your social skills. The winter months are a great time to meet new people. People tend to stay home because it’s too cold to go outside. This is a great opportunity to get out and stay social.
  6. Increase your self-esteem and confidence. This is a great way to set goals and achieve them.
  7. Increase cognitive abilities. Not only is gymnastics a great way to be better physically but mentally as well. Improve your grades and your muscles at the same time!
  8. A foundation in gymnastics can benefit you for other sports. Agility and quickness can be used for any sport and will be positive addition to your skill set.
  9. Face your fears. Gymnastics will allow you to confront your fears and conquer them.
  10. IT’S FUN! There is no other place where you can jump, flip, tumble and roll while being couped-up at home. Come out and enjoy yourself today!

Posted on Tue, Nov 13, 2012 @ 15:11 PM

The holidays can be a very busy time. With planning dinners, hosting friends and relatives, and running errands we can easily forget those less fortunate. Here at Los Angeles School of Gymnastics, we have set up a program for the holidays which would enable you an opportunity to give back to the community.

The program will give underprivileged youths a chance to experience gymnastics who otherwise could not afford it. The program will also help the countless families who have been hit hard financially during these hard times and want to continue their child's gymnastics education but just can’t afford to make the same investment of time and money into transportation, monthly payments, and are in need of assistance.

In addition to the benefit of helping the children, a variety of prizes ranging from an official Los Angeles School of Gymnastics Winter Sweater to lunch with legendary Olympic Coach Alla Svirsky.
